Advocating for Accessibility with Haryana Cabinet Minister

Haryana Secretariat

Today, I had the opportunity to meet Hon. Anil Vij, MLA and Senior Minister of Energy, Labour, and Transport in the Haryana Government, at the Haryana Secretariat. This meeting followed an accessibility petition that had gathered 5,472 signatures, and I was glad that Anil Vij personally signed the petition during our conversation.

Our discussion centered on digital accessibility, with particular focus on screen-reader compatibility for online banking platforms. I explained the challenges that blind and visually impaired users continue to face when trying to navigate banking apps and websites independently, and why stronger accessibility standards in this space matter so much for financial inclusion.

Anil Vij listened closely and engaged seriously with the issue. By the end of our conversation, he agreed to incorporate the petition’s policy language into an upcoming state bill at the next Vidhan Sabha meeting - a meaningful commitment that could translate these accessibility proposals directly into state legislation.

Meetings like this one reaffirm why it is so important to keep bringing these issues directly to policymakers. A signature on a petition is a start, but a commitment to carry these proposals into the legislative process is what turns awareness into real, lasting change for blind and visually impaired citizens across Haryana.
