Bringing Accessible Financial Education to Delhi

Institution for the Blind (Andh-Vidyalaya), Delhi

As part of EconReads’ work to make financial education more accessible, we had the opportunity to partner with Institution for the Blind (Andh-Vidyalaya), Delhi, along with their supporters in the Government of NCT of Delhi and the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Our team spent a day at the school conducting workshops with students, introducing them to concepts from our accessible financial-literacy curriculum. Rather than simply presenting prepared material, we wanted the workshops to be an opportunity for students to engage with the content, ask questions, and tell us what would make financial education genuinely useful and accessible to them.

The experience quickly became a two-way learning process.

Following the workshops, the school agreed to integrate the EconReads curriculum into its senior secondary coursework for Classes 11 and 12. For us, this represented an important step beyond a one-day workshop: our resources could become part of students’ ongoing financial education and reach learners over a longer period of time.

Equally valuable were the conversations we had with students and teachers about the EconReads website. Their feedback helped us identify areas where our platform could become more intuitive, accessible, and useful for visually impaired learners. Hearing directly from the people we designed EconReads for challenged some of our assumptions and gave us practical ideas for improving both our website and curriculum.

This partnership reinforced one of EconReads’ central principles: accessibility should be designed with people, not simply for them.

By working directly with schools, teachers, and students, we can continue refining our resources based on real experiences and needs. Our partnership with Institution for the Blind is an important part of that process, and we are grateful to the students and teachers who helped us make EconReads better.
