Annual Fundraiser for Assistive Learning Tools

Access to education is about more than having a curriculum—it also depends on having the facilities, technology, and learning environment needed to make that education possible.

Recognising this, EconReads launched a fundraising campaign to support three schools for visually impaired students in Punjab. The schools faced significant resource constraints, including limited access to assistive technology such as refreshable Braille displays, as well as inadequate classroom infrastructure and equipment.

Our goal was to help address some of these gaps by directing the funds raised towards improvements that could have an immediate and lasting impact on students’ day-to-day learning.

The funds raised so far have supported the creation of a new computer laboratory, providing students with improved access to technology and digital learning resources. We have also helped provide a new amplifier for school assemblies and events, alongside improved tables and other classroom equipment.

While these may seem like relatively simple changes, access to appropriate technology and basic infrastructure can make a meaningful difference to how students learn, collaborate, and participate in school life.

This fundraiser is part of EconReads’ broader commitment to making education more accessible—not only by developing accessible learning resources, but also by helping schools build the environments and infrastructure needed for students to use them effectively.

We are continuing to explore ways to support schools for visually impaired students and ensure that accessibility extends beyond the curriculum and into the everyday learning experience.
